I need to go back to work so I can get some rest. This retirement stuff just isn't a relaxing as people tell you.
Annette and Oma have been working their butts off sorting through everything and packing boxes. Stuff that goes to the new place, stuff that goes to one of the kids, stuff that goes to the garage sale, stuff for crags list, stuff for freecycle. You get the idea. Then Annette hauls it down and we put it into the storage unit.
Well they are now ready to start the clean up and staging part of the process in advance of putting the house on the market. This weekend it was an all out assault on Oma's house. We rented the U-haul, pack all sorts of supplies and headed up Saturday AM. Sarah met us there. Annette had a constant flow of people there to get stuff and help etc. The place was a zoo. I was afraid Oma was going to go wack-a-doo with all the chaos but she held in there nicely.
We filled up the trailer nicely with several large pieces of furniture. Then we emptied the mud room (washer/dryer) of 40 years of stuff and it got new paint. Opa's library was emptied and painted and it became a bedroom again. Oma's office was also emptied and painted and it became a bedroom/office. Sarah stripped the wallpaper in the hall and kitchen. Next week we paint the dining room and kitchen.
Annette found a lady named Nancy who worked for 2 days up in the studio. She started taking out all the glass (for stained glass). Then she boxed and cleaned up the rest. After that she attacked the books and got those all packed. Major effort and mostly because she just liked Oma (and who wouldn't).
We also worked on the gardens. The entire road around the property was trimmed back. You can drive around it once again. The garden paths were weeded and trimmed. The lower forty was mowed and weed whacking was completed. While not done it sure looks a lot better.
OK, that was the weekend. On Monday Annette and I unloaded the truck and trailer.
I misunderstood Casey and thought the framing, electrical, and plumbing inspection was Tuesday afternoon. It was Monday. It actually worked out because we had a couple of questions anyway. So we got a preliminary inspection with a few things to do. We have another scheduled today!
The roof is essentially done. The gutters go on next. I added smoke detectors, 2 outlets near the sink, and changed the power to the heater to an armored cable. Casey completed the bench seats over the weekend and a bunch of other little things. Now we are wrapping the place and the windows are getting installed.
Here are a couple of shots of the roof. Nice vents and skylights...
Front door on the porch and living room windows installed.
Living room from the inside out....
Back wall of the studio.
